HB1374: Establishing Procedures to Protect Public School Students’ Right to Read and Learn

Impact on Libraries

This legislation applies to schools (both libraries and classrooms), but it is something we should be entirely behind as a profession.
It establishes a process for all school boards to adhere to before voting to ban, or require, any book in school libraries or curricula. It does require that librarians be members of the review committee. Training will also be required, developed by the OCL and other entities in PA Dept. of Education.
